Restoring balance through Country-centred education
For tens of thousands of years, children learned from Country—by listening, watching, and engaging with the world around them. These ways of knowing fostered balance between people, place, and all living beings.
Today, in the face of ecological collapse, Country as Teacher offers a powerful and ancient way forward. It reconnects us to place, responsibility, and one another—through learning that is lived, relational, and restorative.
What is Country as Teacher?
Country as Teacher is an Indigenous approach to teaching and learning that recognizes Country and earth-kin as central knowledge holders. Through spending time looking and listening to country, honouring diverse ways of knowing, being and doing, Country as Teacher helps all people to more deeply know, understand and care for the places they live. In schools, Country as Teacher, helps support children to become custodians for a world upon which we all depend.
